Compare
Side-by-side comparisons for fleets of 5 to 15 trucks
Four comparisons, each with a table, a diagram, a formula and a worked example with invented numbers. We name no providers, quote no market prices and give no legal or tax advice.
All comparisons
Factoring vs quick pay
Turn each fee into a cost per day early. Then compare what else each option carries.
In-house vs outsourced billing
Count hours and missed charges on your own loads before you compare prices.
Which accessorial applies
Match the event to the charge: waiting, overnight hold, cancellation or unloading cost.
Spot vs contract freight
Compare loads after deadhead and payment days, not by posted rate.
Which comparison answers your question
Each page ends in a number you can rebuild from your own load list, not a verdict.
| Your question | The test it uses | Read |
|---|---|---|
| Should I factor invoices or take a broker quick pay? | Effective annual cost: fee divided by cash received, scaled by the days you are paid early. Recourse, reserve and chargebacks are checked too. | Factoring vs quick pay |
| Should I keep billing in-house, hire a clerk or outsource it? | Break-even: hours spent times hourly cost, against the outsourced price, minus the extra charges recovered. | In-house vs outsourced billing |
| Which charge applies to what happened at the dock? | What the truck lost: waiting time, a night away, a booked load, or cash paid for unloading help. | Detention vs layover vs TONU vs lumper |
| Is the spot load really better than the contract lane? | All-mile revenue per mile, days to cash and how often the lane repeats. | Spot vs contract freight |
Three habits that apply to every comparison
- Compare per day or per mile, not by the headline percent or rate. A lower fee on a longer wait can cost more per day, and a higher rate per loaded mile can lose once the empty miles are counted.
- Use your own numbers. The worked examples use invented figures, and these pages name no providers and quote no market prices.
- Check the rate confirmation and your contracts first. They decide which charges you can bill and which remedies you have.
If you want the arithmetic done on real loads, the free calculators cover most of it, and the billing guides explain the proof behind each charge.
What we would check in your audit
- Which comparison decides money on your own loads: fees, empty miles or missing extras.
- The real days to pay by broker, so every cost per day uses your number.
