Broker and carrier red-flag checker
Fill in what you can see on SAFER, the rate confirmation or the insurance certificate. The checker flags what trips a federal rule we can cite, and separately what is only our screening hint. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Check a counterparty
Choose broker or carrier, then fill in what you know. Empty fields do not trip anything.

Rules: authority active; broker bond $75,000 (49 CFR 387.307(a)); carrier liability minimum $750,000 (49 CFR 387.9); MCS-150 every 24 months (49 CFR 390.201(d)). Everything else is marked as a screening hint. The example numbers are invented placeholders. Replace them with yours.
What is a rule and what is a hint
- Federal rule. A requirement in the Code of Federal Regulations that we read in eCFR on 2026-10-09: 49 CFR 387.307 (property broker surety bond or trust fund, $75,000), 49 CFR 387.9 (minimum financial responsibility, for-hire non-hazardous property, $750,000), 49 CFR 390.201(d) (MCS-150 update every 24 months). Rules change: check the current text.
- Our screening hint. A pattern many small carriers find worth a second look. It is not a legal threshold, it will flag good counterparties sometimes, and it will miss bad ones.
- Not covered. We do not use SMS percentile cut-offs because we could not read the current FMCSA threshold page from our servers (it returned an access error), so the checker only asks whether an alert is showing.
Look up the numbers first with the USDOT lookup, then see what a bad outcome costs with Cost of one bad broker.
