Stage 5 Prevent

Peer benchmark

How your roadside inspection record compares with other carriers of your size. Out-of-service is a roadside outcome, not a safety rating.

Example data Your inspection counts are invented. The comparison group is real FMCSA data.

Where this comes from

REAL OPEN DATA, NOT LIVE

How to read this. Compare your rate with the middle carrier of your size. Lower is better. Fewer than 5 inspections means your rate is too noisy to compare.

Show the details

Group: active carriers with 5 to 15 reported trucks and at least 5 vehicle inspections in 24 months, from the FMCSA SMS file, aggregates only. No carrier is named.

We estimate your percentile by interpolating between the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentile values. It is a guide, not a ranking.

Inspections are targeted, so a high rate can reflect where you run, not how well you maintain.

Freshness: retrieved 2026-10-09 12:22 UTC; inspection summary file updated 2026-09-13, census updated 2026-10-09. Sources: data.transportation.gov 4y6x-dmck (inspections, 24 months), az4n-8mr2 (census), aayw-vxb3 (crashes, 2024). Limits: Power units are self-reported on MCS-150 and can be stale. SMS file only holds carriers with inspections, so OOS rates describe inspected carriers; carriers_with_inspection_pct shows coverage. SMS 24-month window is the file definition. Crash counts are carriers matched by DOT number in the census band at retrieval time (a carrier that changed band is counted in its current band); crashes of carriers no longer active are excluded. 2024 is the latest full year with settled reporting; a later year is incomplete because states report with a lag. Cells with fewer than 30 carriers or 100 events are null. OOS is a roadside outcome, not a safety rating.

Step 4 of 15Go

Example data Lakeshore Cold Freight is an invented company (14 trucks, reefer, 13 weeks). Every load, broker and dollar is example data. Brokers appear as Broker A to G. Panels marked REAL OPEN DATA use dated US government aggregates (FMCSA, EIA, NWS, BTS, state work-zone feeds) and are not live. This demo makes no network calls: nothing you type or choose is sent anywhere.
