DOT comment deadlines: what closes soon
FMCSA, FHWA, NHTSA and PHMSA ask for public comment on rules and paperwork all year. This page lists the open comment periods that do not name an applicant, by closing date, with a calendar of the weeks ahead and a filter you can set to your own date.

What it means for your fleet
- Put the dates in your calendar. A comment that arrives after the close date may not be read.
- Read the paperwork notices. They state how many hours the agency thinks a form takes. If it takes you longer, say so with numbers.
- Comment from experience. A short comment with a real example from your fleet is more useful to the agency than a general opinion.
- Use the document link. The instructions on how and where to comment are in the Federal Register entry.
- Check again before the date. Deadlines are sometimes extended, and new periods open most business days.
Questions
What is a comment period?
When an agency proposes a rule, asks to renew a paperwork requirement or publishes a notice for public input, the Federal Register entry names a date until which comments are accepted. Comments received by that date are part of the record. The official instructions on how to comment are in the linked document.
Why are some notices not listed?
Notices about one named company, driver or applicant (exemption applications and renewals, petitions, special permit applications) are counted by agency but not listed one by one. This page is about rules and programs that affect many fleets. 13 such notices are open in this snapshot.
What is a paperwork notice?
Agencies must ask for public comment before they renew or start collecting information from the public, for example a form or a record-keeping rule. The notice says how much time the agency thinks the paperwork takes. These are a chance to say if the estimate is wrong.
Is this the official record?
No. The official text is the Federal Register document, linked on every row. This page is a reading aid built from the Federal Register API, and the document controls if the two differ. It is not legal advice.
How current is it?
The snapshot was retrieved Oct 10, 2026. It holds comment periods that close on or after that date. Documents published later, and deadlines that were extended, are not in it. Always check the linked document before you rely on a date.
